A difference in customs?

“Exile Christmases”

the small gifts—
my poems and art—
you refused

am I not to give
gifts of my heart to you? or
just not at Christmas?

will ever
you love me enough
to be loved?

  1. Seamus Heaney (Irish poet and Nobel Laureate) was attending with his wife a christening in the family. As the two of them approached the house where the christening would happen, they noticed everyone else was bringing a present. They had none. So Heaney’s wife whispered to him, “Well, go upstairs and writing something!” He did. Art should always be a welcome gift. Thanks for raising the questions given here.

And you?
